The 300 men filling out forms in the offices of an Iranian aid group were offered three choices: Train for suicide attacks against U.S. troops in Iraq, for suicide attacks against Israelis or to assassinate British author Salman Rushdie.

It looked at first glance like a gathering on the fringes of a society divided between moderates who want better relations with the world and hard-line Muslim militants hostile toward the United States and Israel.

But the presence of two key figures — a prominent Iranian lawmaker and a member of the country's elite Revolutionary Guards — lent the meeting more legitimacy and was a clear indication of at least tacit support from some within Iran's government.

Since that inaugural June meeting in a room decorated with photos of Israeli soldiers' funerals, the registration forms for volunteer suicide commandos have appeared on Tehran's streets and university campuses, with no sign Iran's government is trying to stop the shadowy movement.

UN resolution 181 was voted on this day in 1947, passing with a 33-10 vote.

The 33 countries that cast the "Yes" vote were: Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Byelorussia, Canada, Costa Rica, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Guatemala, Haiti, Iceland, Liberia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Sweden, Ukraine, Union of South Africa, USSR, USA, Uruguay, and Venezuela. (Among other countries, the list includes the US, the three British Dominions, all the European countries except for Greece and the UK, but including all the Soviet-block countries.)

The 13 countries that chose to enter history's Hall of Shame by voting "No" were: Afghanistan, Cuba, Egypt, Greece, India, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, and Yemen. Ten of these are Muslim countries; Greece had the special distinction of being the only European country to join such illustrious company.

On November 30, 1947, the day following the vote, Palestinian Arabs murdered six Jews traveling on a bus making its way to Jerusalem, and then proceeded to murder another Jew in the Tel-Aviv/Jaffa area. This was a prelude to a war that claimed the lives of 6,000 Jews, or 1% of the total Jewish population in 1948. This toll is the per capita equivalent of today's America losing 3,000,000 citizens, or Canada losing 300,000.

The express object of this offensive war, launched by Arabs in the former Palestine along with the armies of Egypt, Tansjordan, Syria and Lebanon (with help from other Arab countries), was to "throw the Jews into the sea." As the partition map indicates, however, rather than annihilate the Jewish population, the Arabs ended up with less territory than they would have gained by peaceful means. Such is the profundity of Arab Jew-hatred.

In addition to the bloodshed in the newly reborn Israel, immediately after the UN vote Arabs attacked their Jewish neighbors in a number of Arab countries, the murders in Syriaís Aleppo being the most well known. Also of note is the fact that at least as many Jews were dispossessed and expelled from Arab nations as the so-called Palestinian "refugees" who left their land of their own volition after being convinced that Israel would soon be destroyed.

Stunned and wounded, Israel has persevered, because to lose once is to lose it all. Israel has become the promise and hope inside every Jew's heart. Israel is a shining example of what a just, determined people can do when pushed to the brink of complete destruction before returning to the land of their fathers and prophets. In fifty-seven short years, the people of Israel have accomplished what their neighbors have never accomplished: the formation of a free, principled, and prosperous state.

Real Story of Thanksgiving

I'm glad to continue learning most of what I have learned in school is complete BS. The politically correct Thanksgiving story says that the pilgrims came to America and were pretty much lost, unable to grow their own food or hunt. The INDIANS came in, gave them food, taugh them to hunt and farm, and in return we killed them and stole their land.

Most people believe this.

Here is the real story:

Did you know that the first [Plymouth Colony Pilgrim's] Thanksgiving was a celebration of the triumph of private property and individual initiative?

William Bradford was the governor of the original Pilgrim colony, founded at Plymouth in 1621. The colony was first organized on a communal basis, as their financiers required. Land was owned in common. The Pilgrims farmed communally, too, following the "from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs" precept.

The results were disastrous. Communism didn't work any better 400 years ago than it does today. By 1623, the colony had suffered serious losses. Starvation was imminent.

Bradford realized that the communal system encouraged and rewarded waste and laziness and inefficiency, and destroyed individual initiative. Desperate, he abolished it. He distributed private plots of land among the surviving Pilgrims, encouraging them to plant early and farm as individuals, not collectively.

The results: a bountiful early harvest that saved the colonies. After the harvest, the Pilgrims celebrated with a day of Thanksgiving -- on August 9th.

Unfortunately, William Bradford's diaries -- in which he recorded the failure of the collectivist system and the triumph of private enterprise -- were lost for many years. When Thanksgiving was later made a national holiday, the present November date was chosen. And the lesson the Pilgrims so painfully learned was, alas, not made a part of the holiday.

Happily, Bradford's diaries were later rediscovered. They're available today in paperback. They tell the real story of Thanksgiving -- how private property and individual initiative saved the Pilgrims.

This Thanksgiving season, one of the many things I'm thankful for is our free market system (imperfectly realized as it is). And I'm also grateful that there are increasing numbers of Americans who are learning the importance of free markets, and who are working to replace government coercion with marketplace cooperation here in America and around the world.

Watching the nightly news, you might not have known that U.S. forces achieved a historic victory in Fallujah this week. You might not have known this because all the U.S. media, spearheaded by NBC News, seemed to care about was one Marine shooting an insurgent pretending to be dead. As the Wall Street Journal lamented on Thursday, "Have we lost all sense of moral proportion?"

Is one Marine, wary of "dead" terrorists rigged with bombs, more important than the 40-plus Marines who gave their lives in the battle? Does one Marine, weary of fighting and seeing his buddies cut down by fanatics, trump the torture chambers, starving prisoners and disfigured victims that U.S. forces found throughout the city? It would be laughable if it weren't so tragic.

In just over a week, our guys killed more than 1,200 terrorists, captured 1,000 more and liberated a city in the grip of Islamists for the past eight months. And all the media can do is find their next Abu Ghraib. Memo to big media executives: The election is over and you lost. Now get back to reporting the news.

But, he said, "the Syrian government there has shown absolutely no interest in helping us resolve this issue."

Exhibit B: The Deulfer Report
"A lot of materials left Iraq and went to Syria," Duelfer said. "There was certainly a lot of traffic across the border points. We've got a lot of data to support that, including people discussing it. But whether in fact in any of these trucks there was WMD-related materials, I cannot say."

Exhibit C: Prior History

The Duelfer report says that in that same month before the war, while Syria’s Al-Shara was arguing for "peace," Saddam’s government was signing contracts with a Syrian company owned by a relative of Syria’s President Bashar Al-Assad. The contracts were to buy "portable air defense systems, Kornet antitank guided missiles, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), heavy machine guns, and 20 million machinegun rounds for delivery to Iraq," according to a former high-ranking Iraqi official.

In the case of those particular munitions, delivery was apparently interrupted by the U.S.-led coalition's overthrow of Saddam’s regime. But plenty of forbidden items had poured through Syria to Iraq already, including munitions that may still be killing coalition troops and Iraqi civilians. For the final two years of Saddam’s regime, Duelfer’s report explains: "Syria was Iraq’s primary conduit for illicit imports," handling contracts for $1.2 billion worth of forbidden goods and services, including weapons and military technology.

Syria also served as an illicit banker for Baghdad, with the state-owned Commercial Bank of Syria laundering hundreds of millions in Saddam’s secret funds, and by some accounts channeling Saddam’s stash onward via a CBS subsidiary in Beirut, capital of Syria’s vassal state, Lebanon.

Saddam’s shady business with the Commercial Bank of Syria is all the more disturbing given that this past May the U.S. Treasury designated this bank as a conduit for "numerous transactions that may be indicative of terrorist financing," including "two accounts at CBS that reference a reputed financier for Usama bin Laden."

So flagrant was Syria’s cooperation with Saddam that in October, 2002, while the U.S. was trying to reason with the U.N. Security Council, Syria, according to the Duelfer report, was helping Saddam import from a Ukrainian military manufacturer an entire massive pontoon bridge set.

Terrorism as a Preferred Instrument of Syrian Policy

4. In light of these changes it is possible to characterize the current situation regarding Syrian support and patronage for terrorist organizations as follows:

a. The Syrians provide patronage and political, propaganda and operational support to at least 10 of the 35 terrorist groups (or more than 30%) appearing on the US State Department’s list of state sponsors of terrorism (as of April 1998). The ideology of these terrorist organizations calls for the destruction of Israel and they oppose the peace process, the Oslo Accords, the Palestinian Authority and Yasser Arafat.

b. The terrorist groups under Syrian patronage can be divided in to four categories as possible:

1) Hezbollah;

2) Palestinian Islamic organizations: Hamas, Palestine Islamic Jihad/Shkaki);

3) Radical left-wing Palestinian organizations: the PFLP-GC/Jibril, the PFLP/Habash, the DFLP/Hawatmeh, The Palestine Liberation Front, the Fatah Revolutionary Council/Abu Nidal, Fatah/Abu Mussa and an extremist faction of the Popular Struggle Front;

4) Other Middle Eastern and International terrorist groups: Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), Japanese Red Army and other terrorist organizations.

c. Hezbollah and other Palestinian terrorist groups’ policy of carrying out terrorist attacks is part of Syrian strategy and is influenced by it. However, Syria does not have sole and absolute control over these terrorist groups. Contrary to the 1970s and 1980s, Syria cooperates with its strategic ally Iran, and the terror attacks carried out by Palestinian Islamic organizations serve the joint and shared interests of the two countries. Thus, the Syrians make use of the Islamic organizations which receive ideological guidance, political and operational instructions as well as military and financial support from Iran.

d. The headquarters, training bases, logistical, political and propaganda offices of these organizations are primarily based in Syria. In this framework, it should be noted that Damascus is the primary center of left-wing Palestinian organizations opposed to the Palestinian Authority and the Oslo Accords. Syria serves as an important arena oactivity for Hamas outside of Judea, Samaria and Gaza, and senior Hamas officials carry out operational, political and propaganda activities from Damascus. The infrastructure of the “Palestine Islamic Jihad” outside of Judea, Samaria and Gaza is primarily located in the vicinity of Damascus, from where its operations and activities in the “territories” are directed.

e. The leaders of most of these terrorist organizations reside in Syria, from where they oversee and direct the military, political and propaganda activities of their organizations against Israel and other Arab states. Among the senior leaders and activists of the terror groups residing in Damascus are: Dr. Ramadan Shalah, Secretary-General of Islamic Jihad and his deputy Ziad Nehaleh; Imad al-Alami, chairman of Hamas’ “Interior Committee”, who is a dominant figure in activating the organizations’ military apparatus for carrying out attacks; Ahmed Jibril, George Habash and Nayef Hawatmeh, leaders of the three main left-wing Palestinian terrorist organizations. Also active in Syria are middle- and low-ranking military activists of all the abovementioned groups.

f. The Syrians permit these groups to maintain their military and political infrastructure in areas under their control in Lebanon. The most widespread infrastructure belongs to Hezbollah, which is also the leading group which concentrates attacks in southern Lebanon. The Syrians also permit some limited activity by the left-wing Palestinian terrorist groups. With Syrian approval, the Beka’a Valley continues to serve as an organizational and training center for Middle East and international terrorist groups.

Why is the Bush administration not saying much about this? Perhaps because we are in two countries already and don't have the military capacity to do a whole lot more at this time.

Kerry Says UBL Tape Cost Him Election

"The Massachusetts senator told FOX News' senior correspondent Geraldo Rivera that he believes he lost because the tape may have scared the American electorate.

Trying to recount Kerry's words verbatim, Rivera said Kerry responded by saying:

"It was that Usama tape- it scared them [the American people]."

The article also says this: He admitted for the first time that he carried out the Sept. 11 attacks and said the attacks would have been less severe if Bush had been more alert. This is false.

Now, what is Kerry saying? Basically that Americans were given an unneeded reminder of the threat Osama bin Laden poses and that they decided Bush is better for the war on terror than Kerry. He didn't say it quite like that, though. Perhaps he is trying to imply what complete nutcase/shithead Walter Cronkite said.

The Democrats and liberal nutjob allies, if they aren't one in the same, threw everything they could at Bush to win this election. Liar Richard Clarke said, among other things, that in a White House meeting he observed that Condoleeza Rice had heard of Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden for the first time by the perplexed look on her face. Lie. There were Michael Moore's lies.

There were the forged documents by a news network working actively to take Bush down - documents which jackass Terry McAuliffe claimed were made by Karl Rove. There was the bogus weapons cache story. Hollyweird liberals (who still won't leave).

There's much more. I only bring this up because it's amusing that this intense barrage of lies put forth miserably failed to bring Bush down because Americans aren't as dumb as the liberals want to think they are.

If you aren't a Christian, that doesn't matter. Either way, I see no reason any of us have to respect the religion of Islam because it is not a peaceful and loving one. Some say the terrorists are "extremists" and they don't follow true Islam: I think, from looking at various passages in the Koran (or Qur'an), they are followers of true Islam. From reading this I think it is easy to see why 9/11 happened:

It was invented by Arabs when Jews immigrated to Israel because Islam teaches them Muslims to kill Jews and not to allow them to own land. I take an anti-depressant called Effexor. Upon being first prescribed it the psychiatrist told me I would have to take it for a very long time, perhaps my whole life because I was chemically imbalanced. When I take my pills in the morning I think, am I really going to have to do this forever? Is this really how things are supposed to be?

Interestingly I had a conversation with my friend Ian last night discussing the liberal thinking behind sociology and psychiatry. The first rule of sociology is that human behavior is influenced by the society he is raised in. Psychiatry teaches that genetics for one, and friends for another, influence behavior. The thing both have in common is that they eliminate personal responsibility and accountability from the equation. I believe in God, and believe He gave us free will, and with that came personal responsibility. Psychiatry for one does not take this into account, and in my case, the chemical imbalance in my brain is the reason I felt depressed.

I considered myself an atheist through my teen years and only recently began to reconsider things, and now I believe Christianity is the most logical theory. Despite having pro-evolution and anti-God thinking shoved down my throat through school and even in college now, my own research showed that evolution isn't the rock-solid theory scientists say it is.

The other thing is that now that I believe in God again and read the Bible, I am feeling better.

I certainly don't believe in his all encompassing religion idea (bottom of article) but that particular statement hit home. I think this alone is a piece of evidence proving the existence of God. The error people make is asking for scientific proof, failing to realize scientific ideas are themselves theory and a seperate set of ideas/beliefs.

Marine maligned for doing his job

No, terrorists (known to liberals as "insurgents") are not protected by the Geneva Convention. They are not soldiers in uniform. They terrorize their fellow citizens. They fight amongst civilians.

The American Marine featured in a recent videotape shooting an Iraqi is receiving more condemnation by our very own liberal media than Osama bin Laden did for the 9/11 attacks. The Iraqi was sitting against a wall, either injured or dead, when he was shot after some quick contemplation by the Marine.

I am disgusted that he has been taken out of combat to be investigated for this and may face criminal charges. The Iraqi "insurgents" have done the following since our entry into Iraq: booby trap dead bodies, use dead bodies or injured people to lure soldiers into traps, feign surrender only to subsequently whip out a gun and take out as many soldiers as possible before dying, feign death or injury only to subsequently whip out a gun and take out as many soldiers as possible, behead civlians in an attempt to change foreign policy of nations involved in this coalition, display mutilated bodies of westerners on streets and bridges, and much more.

Our military men are aware of this. When I watched this video, if anything I would logically conclude that the Marine in question exercised more restraint than necessary. He took about 5-10 seconds to decide what to do. I think I would have put a bullet in the Iraqi's head right away just to be safe.

I'm bothered that even so-called right wing nutjobs are saying that "this is a tough one." (Sean Hannity to Oliver North on Monday night's [11/17] "Hannity and Colmes"). Give this guy a break. The people we're fighting aren't conventional soldiers. We need to stop appeasing the looney left by removing valuable and skilled Marines from the battlefield because they are doing what they have to do in order to survive in an extremely hostile environment.
